Pre-Sessional English Language Programme
English language skills for entry onto Degree programmes
The College has a long tradition of teaching English language and has considerable expertise on campus because it has its own integral English language school, the London branch of the British Study Centres School of English, which was recently voted the Best English Language School in Europe in the Star Awards. Students whose English is of at least CEFR B1 standard (IELTS 4.0 in all four skills), but below the standard required for their chosen course, are advised to enrol our Pre-Sessional English Language programme.
Many international students speak and write English at High School Certificate level but have not achieved the high level of English Language proficiency required for study on their chosen diploma or degree. This may also mean that they are unable to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at the level required to qualify for a visa for such a course, ie Level B2 (IELTS 5.5). Nevertheless they are keen to commence their studies and so need to enrol on our Pre-Sessional English course in advance of their main study programme. This course is specifically designed to raise a student's English Language proficiency to B2 level in the full range of skills needed to pass a SELT at the required level and satisfy the 'next stage' visa requirement for the degree. (International students must apply for a separate visa for this Pre-Sessional programme and then apply for another visa for the degree programme. The College will assist with the second visa application and it can be done by post whilst in the UK).
