Business Management

Degree Structure

A degree in Management Studies is taught via a selection of compulsory and optional courses to enhance your learning and prepare you for a future career or further study. In each year you will take courses adding up to 120 credits. Depending on the number of compulsory and optional courses offered by your degree, you can also choose other eligible courses which fit your timetable.

First Year

Compulsory Courses

  • Managing Organisations (MS1009)
  • The Economics of Business and Society (EC1006)
  • Accounting and Entrepreneurship (AC1515)
  • The Context of Business (MS1509)

Optional Courses

  • Select a further 60 credit points from courses of choice, including 30 credits from Sustained Study, Discipline Breadth or Sixth Century courses.

Second Year

Compulsory Courses

  • Managing Customers and Markets (MS2005)
  • Operations Management (MS2511)
  • Understanding Statistics (PO2508)

Optional Courses

  • Select a further 60 credit points from courses of choice, including 30 credits from Sustained Study, Discipline Breadth or Sixth Century courses.

Third & Fourth Year

Compulsory Courses

  • Research Methods for Business (MS3553)
  • Understanding Managing Behaviour in Organisations (MS4053)
  • Management Studies Dissertation (MS4539)
  • Business Stategy (MS4536)

Optional Courses

  • Candidates for Single Honours in Management Studies must obtain 210 credit points from level 3 and 4 courses in Management Studies, of which at least 90 credit points must be at level 4.
  • Single Honours candidates are required to gain 30 credit points from Discipline Breadth or Sixth Century courses across levels 3 and 4.  Please note that candidates may not obtain more than 30 credit points from courses outwith Management Studies to satisfy these Enhanced Study requirements.
